Tips for T&T Businesses to Increase Engagement on TikTok

TikTok has become one of the most used apps. While businesses have known that video content has the most significant engagement and preference amongst users, TikTok is changing how many businesses are connecting with their audiences.

TikTok can be intimidating and hard to break through but there are a few things you can do to maintain a steady stream of views and eventually increased engagement and followers.

Here are our top tips for increased engagement on TikTok:

1. Cover The Core Basics

Let’s start with the baseline necessities. Like all apps, TikTok requires you to keep active and post often to reach higher in their algorithm. This doesn’t mean that you have to post every day. However, you should choose a level of frequency that is manageable for you and your team. For example, once a week on a Wednesday.

The key here is to keep consistent and aim for at least one video a week.

The other core feature you need to use is hashtags. This is important on TikTok as hashtags are used for the algorithm to sort and send videos to the relevant people interested in various topics. Only use hashtags that are pertinent to your business.

For example, if you are in the interior design industry you should use hashtags like #interiordesign, #homerenovations #housetour, #home, #decor or #homeinspiration.

Pro-tip: use country and the FYP hashtags. This first one will increase your ability to get views from the local population. The latter will help you get on the For You Page where users spend the most time on the app.

2. Collaborate with TikTokers

If posting regularity isn't feasible for you or you are in an engagement slump, engage other TikTokers to collaborate with your company. This doesn’t mean only using popular influencers, it could also mean reaching out to followers who create good videos or anyone who has provided User Generated Content for you before.

Even if they have low followers this doesn't mean their content won’t get a lot of engagement and you can exchange it for a product or service.

Some companies also provide discounts for clients that make TikToks, submit Google reviews and more which can greatly increase client content.

Working with larger influencers is also a potential prospect. But do not aim for hard-sell videos, rather work with larger influencers to create a video that seamlessly fits in with the rest of their content.

For example, if your product is coffee, partner with an influencer that does day-in-the-life content and ask them to include it in the video (with a clear disclosure that it is a partnership).

3. Experiment with Different Formats

TikTok is a trend-based app. Music, filters, sound clips and more are always gaining or losing popularity. It is necessary to stay on top of these trends to ensure that your content will reach higher in their algorithm.

Make sure to follow industry-related accounts and popular pages so that you can keep on top of these trends and take part in them.

Look out for trends like duet videos, music, transitions and even reactions to other videos on the platform. This will help you to stay on the pulse of the app but it is also known to increase your engagement as the algorithm pushes trends higher on users' feeds.

Check out Duolingo’s TikTok feed for a great example of how they stay on top of trends on the platform.
